The Best Queenstown & Wanaka Wedding Photographers

Choosing your wedding photographer is probably going to be one of your hardest vendor decisions. Compared to videography, there are many more photographers to choose from, particularly in the Queenstown & Wanaka area. The differences between them can also be extremely subtle, especially when comparing the best of the best.

I’m the perfect vendor to ask about photographers, as I work alongside a photographer at every single wedding and I’m fortunate enough to have worked with the vast majority of local photographers. We are essentially on the same team (the ‘capturing moments team’) and I’ve got to know many of them on a personal level. For me, it all comes down to finding someone that you really gel with. All of the following photographers can take incredible photos, in any lighting conditions, at any venue or mountaintop. It’s instead about finding a person that will listen to your needs and help you relax into the day. When the chemistry between you and your photographer is right, magic happens and this really comes through in the images. This positively impacts the video too (perhaps even more so, when the more natural movement comes into it).

The following list is compiled of my personal favorite Queenstown & Wanaka-based photographers. It’s important to note that this list is not exhaustive, and just because I haven’t mentioned someone, does not mean that I don’t value them or their work. I’ll happily work with any photographer of your choosing, and I love meeting/working with new people!

The below photographers are simply…

  1. People who I regularly work alongside at weddings and can vouge for.

  2. People who are friendly, respectful, and kind.

  3. People who do great work (their photos capture the couple and vibe of the day perfectly while being technically proficient).

  4. People who are team players and appreciate the value I offer as a videographer.

If you have any questions about any of these recommendations, feel free to flick me a message. Enjoy!

Williams Photography / Mountain Weddings | Warren

Warren is a great guy and extremely talented photographer. He’s at home in the mountains, and with the help of his partner Steph, offers a adventure elopement planning service too called Mountain Weddings. You can’t go wrong with this team.

Kate Roberge Photography | Kate

Kate’s style is artful, delicate, and emotional. She’s great at cultivating a warm, approachable, and romantic experience on the wedding day. She does this through subtle things, like playing music during the photoshoot. Check out her great blog posts too, there’s some seriously helpful knowledge in there from her expertise capturing over 400 weddings!

Carla Mitchel Photography | Carla

Carla is so much fun to work with. She’s great at making couples laugh, move and feel comfortable (which I love as a videographer). Her extensive photography experience gives her work an extremely emotive feel too.

Alpine Images | Jen, Yeah & Nat

Jen, Yaeh, and the Alpine Images team are relaxed, upbeat, and experienced. They are Wanaka locals, but like myself, they cover the Queenstown area too. I love working with Alpine, they really bring a calm, relaxed and happy vibe to the wedding day.

Mic Images | Mickey

I work in the same office as Mickey, so I see firsthand just how much effort he puts into the post-production of his photos. He really cares about quality and detail, and this shows in his work. He’s also refreshingly himself, not super “lovey dovely”, but he’s genuine, kind, and passionate about his craft.

Emily Adamson Photography | Emily

Emily is lovely and sweet. You’ll love her warm, fun, gentle nature and she’s got some awesome animal rescue/rehabilitation stories. She’s won a huge range of photography awards too, so she knows a thing or two about capturing authentic moments.
